Columbus, GA- Robert H. (Bobby) Rowe passed away on November 25, 2013. He was under Columbus Hospice care.
Funeral service will be held Friday, November 29, 2013 at 11:00am at Wynnton United Methodist Church with visitation from 9:30 am- 11:00 am, at the Church. A private burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
Mr. Rowe was born in Atlanta, GA, December 4, 1928 to the late Annie Mae Duggan Rowe and John Carris Rowe, Sr. In addition to his parents Mr. Rowe was preceded in death by a brother, John Carris Rowe, Jr.
The Rowe family moved to LaGrange, GA briefly and to Columbus, GA when Bobby was 6 years old. He attended St. Elmo grammar School, Columbus High and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1951. Bobby served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. His service included a year in Korea as a first Lt. with the 27th Wolfhound regiment 25th Division. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster. Upon returning from the service Bobby joined his brother J.C. at Stop 'N Tell Drive Inn Restaurant on Victory Drive for 5 years.
Bobby obtained his real estate license in 1958 while with Calhoun Realty.
He opened Rowe Realty in April 1962 serving West Georgia and East Alabama heavily involved in property management and the sale and leasing of Commercial and investment property and homes. He remained active in real estate. He was President of Ga. Real Estate Association, Life Membership in Columbus Board of Realtors. He was married to Mary Rowe for 45 years until her death and is presently married to Doris W. Rowe. Bobby and Mary have two children, Victoria Cothran (Sam) of Columbus, GA, and Lisa Dove (Joe) of Buford, GA. From that marriage there are four grandchildren: Erika Mehosky, Garrett Cothran, Jeremy Ferguson and Jerrod Ferguson.
Bobby has three step daughters: Karen Kendall (Rob), Deborah Wright (Dr. J.T.), Jennifer Meacham and several step grandchildren. He had two nieces, Sally Rowe, and Minnie Rowe Bradley.
Bobby liked to hunt, fish and boat ride up and down the river. He devoted a great deal of time to the preservation of the free enterprise system.
He was President of the Columbus Board of Realtors and the Georgia Association of Realtors. Bobby was one of three that brought the multi listing service (RML) to Columbus and was instrumental in developing the Realtor's political action committee. This carried him across the State and to Washington and Atlanta for years in support of free enterprise, national sovereignty and less interference from the government into the lives and business of the citizens of this Country. He was a member of Wynnton Methodist Church and the Goodwill Sunday School Class and a life member of the National Rifle Association.
The Goodwill Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers, and active pallbearers will be: Otis Burnham, Red McDaniel, Col. Donald "Buzz" McKay, Al Fleming, Morton Harris, and Murray Calhoun.
