Columbus, Georgia- Thelma Sosebee Hasty of Columbus went home to be with the Lord December 29, 2013 at the age of 89. The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Hasty will be held January 3, 2014, 11 a.m. at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus with Pastor Jeremy Rands of Columbus and Reverend Charles Yates of Hiram, Georgia co-officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia at 3:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Hasty was the only child of Garnett Wade Sosebee and Daisy Mae Cleveland Sosebee, born November 2, 1924 in Atlanta. She married James Thurston Hasty of Atlanta. Their marriage of 57 years was blessed with four sons. Mrs. Hasty's passions were her family and a close circle of friends. She was a lifelong Baptist and devoted homemaker. Leisure interests included fashion, shopping, cooking, traveling and bridge.
Mrs. Hasty was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband. After the passing of her husband she moved to Springfield, Missouri and later to Columbus, Georgia. She is survived by her four sons, Jim Hasty and his wife Barbara of Sun City West, Arizona, Darrel Hasty and his wife Leigh of Springfield, Missouri, Wade Hasty and his wife Carol of Cornelia, Georgia, and Dennis Hasty and his wife Sara of Phenix City, Alabama. Mrs. Hasty is also survived by nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Donna Burrell and R.N. Brenda Hasara of Doctors Clinic for the outstanding healthcare they provided Mrs. Hasty the last years of her life. The family also wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful, caring staff at Franciscan Woods, Gentiva Hospice, and Phenix City Health Care.
