Mattie Sconyers McClintock, 92 of Columbus, GA passed away in Marietta, GA following a brief illness. Mrs. McClintock was born to Seymore and Ola Angie Sconyers on September 26, 1923 in Clio, AL. She was a Registered Nurse and was in charge of the Medical Clinic at Tom's Foods, was a member of The American Nurses Association, and was Head Nurse on the convalescent ward at the Medical Center for over 30 years. Mattie was a very active member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church and served on many committees including the Joyful Servants. Her hobbies included gardening, (she grew beautiful roses), the bridge club and bowling where she earned a 200 club badge. Mrs. McClintock was widowed at a very early age after her loving husband (Captain Wilbur Briscoe McClintock, a member of the 509 Parachute Infantry Regiment) died while serving in the U.S. Army. Mattie was an adoring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who emphasized the importance of Christian beliefs, family, education and sports to her children.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. McClintock was preceded in death by; her brother, John Sconyers; three sisters, Ann Uland, Maudie Brock, and Dovie Phillips. She is survived by; her daughter, Dianne (Tom) Callahan of Marietta, GA; her son, Donald (Kathy) McClintock of Columbus, GA; grandchildren , Michael Callahan, Shannon (Byron) Price and Drew McClintock; great grandchildren, Regan Price and Ryan Price; nieces, nephews, other family member and friends.
The family will welcome guests for visitation Thursday, June 2, 2016 10:00 am in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA, one hour prior to the 11:00 am Funeral Service. A graveside committal service will follow with Reverend Brad Hicks officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family request gifts be given to the Mattie S. McClintock Scholarship Endowment Fund established by the Columbus State University Foundation. Your mom was a part of my early memories. She was a nurse at Tom's and a dear friend of my mother's. I will always remember her in the starched white uniform and her professional attitude and care when needed or the beautiful smile and laugh when sharing a thought. She and my mother loved each other and I loved her! RIP Mattie, you deserve it. (Give Mother a hug from me!)
