GREENFIELD - Charles Joseph Greene, 84, of Greenfield, died at Monadnock Community Hospital, on May 16, 2014 after a period of failing health. Charles was born in Marlborough on Feb. 21, 1930, the son of Frank Greene and Ethel (French) Greene.
Charles grew up in Marlborough before moving to Hillsborough where he met his loving wife, Floreida. Together the two of them moved to Greenfield where they raised their family.
Charles was a member of the Hillsborough Moose Club
, The Hillsborough Sportsman's Club and was the Assistant Fire Chief for a time on the Greenfield Fire Department. He coached little league, enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and working on vehicles of all kinds. He loved visiting and socializing with the many people he knew.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Floreida (Cate) Greene and his children, Michael "Greenie" Greene of Greenfield; David Greene of Kan.; Nora Greene of Fitzwilliam; and Frank Greene and his wife, Linda of Peterborough. He will also be missed by his brother Raymond Greene of Ala., his six grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, Tracy, Michelle, Melissa and Beth as well as his three great- grandchildren.
Charles is predeceased by his son Charles Greene Jr., who died in 1978.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 1 p.m. at St. Charles Cemetery, Shedd Road, Hillsborough.
