Dorothy Miner Macalaster, 92, of Hancock passed way peacefully in her home, surrounded by loving family, on April 25, 2013. Dorothy was born in Newtonville, MA on May 3, 1920 to Dr. Leroy Mathew Simpson Miner and Edna Winifred Dailey Miner.
Dorothy was passionate about young children and their families. She earned her degree as an educator of the young child from Elliot Pearson at Tufts University. She married Andrews Shaw Macalaster on 12/5/1942 and was a loving and devoted wife for 60 years. Dorothy and Andrews raised their family in West Newton MA and spent every summer in Greenfield NH. She loved horseback riding, all that the Monadnock region had to offer, and most especially the time spent at "camp" on beloved Lake Nubanusit.
Dorothy loved her family and dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed life to the fullest and put her family first. She had a kind, thoughtful and generous spirit. Her laughter could brighten up a room. To her "laughter is the best medicine".
When she wasn't involved with her family, she participated in the Massachusetts Mother's Association. In 1978 the organization honored her with the Mother of the Year Award. Dorothy also was an active member of the 2nd Congregational church of West Newton and the Greenfield woman's Club, which her mother Edna founded.
Her family celebrates her life and are grateful for every moment we shared with her.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Andrews S. Macalaster and by her brothers Dr Richard L. Miner and Dr Robert C. Miner.
Dorothy is survived by her loving children; Nancy Macalaster, Peter Macalaster, Spencer Macalaster, and Gail Maloney. She is also survived by her wonderful grandchildren; Scott Bradford, Beth Bradford, Caitlin Murphy, Gretyl Macalaster, Jennefer Macalaster, Andrews Macalaster, Julia Macalaster.
