Joseph Richard Thibault, 77, of Peterborough, NH, died on March 23, 2013, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH. He was surrounded by his family and passed peacefully.
Joe was born in Newburyport, MA on May 1, 1935. He was the son of Adrien and Carmeline Thibault. He spent his early years in Amesbury, MA before moving to Fitchburg, MA where he graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1955. He and his wife Irene (Ewen) Thibault were married on May 3, 1959 and moved to Peterborough that year.
Joe started his successful career as a skilled machinist/tool & die maker at the GE Plant in Fitchburg before transitioning to the New Hampshire Ball Bearing, Peterborough plant where he was employed for 11 years. Joe then went on to work for Pneumo Precision in Keene for 25 years and ended his career at Precitech in Keene, retiring in 2000. Joe also served as the buildings and grounds caretaker for the Law of office of Brighton, Fernald, and Taft for more than 25 years. After retirement as a machinist, Joe took a part-time job at Belletetes, Peterborough store for 10 years.
Joe was a 52 year member of the Elks Lodge
#927 in Keene, NH. He was also a firefighter
with the Peterborough Fire and Rescue for 34 years before his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed camping, particularly at Sandy Beach Campground in Hopkinton, where he camped seasonally with his family for more than 30 years. He was a precise craftsman and could fix or build anything. He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed attending all of their school and sporting events.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene (Ewen) Thibault of Peterborough, his son Paul Thibault, and his wife Julie, of Peterborough, and his two grandchildren Ryan Thibault and Rebecca Thibault, both of Peterborough.
A graveside service will be held in May at Pine Hill Cemetery in Peterborough.
