Marilyn E. Somero, 62, of New Ipswich, NH, died Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, NH. She was born in Fitchburg, MA, on March 24, 1950, the daughter of the late Sulo and Elsie (Honkala) Piispanen.
Marilyn lived in Ashby, MA until she married her husband Carl A. Somero on June 19, 1969, and moved to New Ipswich, NH together. She worked at S&S Concrete for over 20 years. Prior she was a secretary for the Town of New Ipswich. Marilyn enjoyed her retirement and was an active member of the Monadnock Quilters Guild and the Wilton Lyndeborough Winter Wonder. She loved to boat on lake Winnipesauke out of the Melvin Village Marina and she loved to travel, visiting 23 states in 6 months on an extended retirement vacation. She loved her dog Anka, and her family and her extended family was very important to her.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of 44 years Carl A. Somero and their son James M. Somero of Rindge, NH and his significant other Ellen Matthews. 1 brother; Larry Piispanen and his wife Christine Leblanc of Ashburnham, MA. 2 brother in laws; George Somero and his wife Sharon of New Ipswich, NH, and Gary Somero and his wife Kay also of New Ipswich. Marilyn is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association
Friends and Family are warmly invited to attend a memorial service being held at the Christian Outreach Church 199 North St., Rindge, NH on Friday February 15 at 2PM. Services will be officiated by Pastor Robert Hakala.
