NASHUA - Martha Jane Hicks, 61, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at her home in Nashua. She was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in February 1952 and moved with her family from New Jersey to New Hampshire in 1965 where she remained. She resided for extended periods in Peterborough, Hancock and Nashua and loved the people and communities where she lived. Martha touched many lives through her work as care giver and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her mother, Nancy, brother Craig and sister-in-law Amy of Peterborough; brother David and sister-in-law Linda of Woodbridge, Virginia; nieces Jennifer and Kristen; and nephews Rob and Scott. She was predeceased in 2005 by her father, D. Scott Hicks, of Peterborough.
Martha graduated from Peterborough High School in 1970, its final senior class, and held several jobs in the region including an editor for Byte Magazine and pathology transcriptionist for Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. For the last 15 years she provided certified nursing assistance to the residents of RiverMead, Summerhill and Pheasantwood nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Peterborough. More recently she provided personalized aid to the elderly and disabled through the Healthy at Home agency in Nashua. Martha earned an associate degree with distinction in medical office administration from Hesser College and was awarded several certifications for nursing, specialized medical training, and job performance. She was very talented at making hand-crafted decorations, loved collecting holiday ornaments and had a real passion for antique furnishings.
A family memorial gathering will be held in the fall in lieu of a public service. The family requests that her friends and colleagues leave a note of remembrance in the obituary Guest Book maintained online by the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - www.legacy.com/obituaries/ledgertranscript/
