PETERBOROUGH - Mary L. Akerley, 87, of Peterborough died at Pheasant Wood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Nov. 3, 2012.
She was born June 25, 1925, in Nashua, the daughter of Dr. Patrick J. McLaughlin and Lillian Driscoll McLaughlin.
After attending schools in N.H., Mary moved and lived most of her adult life in Green Village, N.J. She met and married her husband of more than 64 years, Aubrey Akerley, in Green Village, N.J., where they were very active in the community and raised their five children. Mary worked at the Green Village Post Office for many years, served on the Women's Auxiliary of the Green Village Fire Department and was very active in the Green Village Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing golf, but she found the most joy in spending time with her family and many dear friends.
In addition to her husband, Aubrey, Mary is survived by her five children, Barbara Reid of Fair Haven, N.J., Patricia Owen and her husband William of San Ignacio, Belize, A. Brian Akerley of Peterborough, Myles Akerley of Antrim, and Keith Akerley and his wife, Laura, of Hancock. She will also be dearly missed by her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mary leaves one sister, Katherine McLaughlin of Nashua, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, John McLaughlin, Phillip McLaughlin, Paul McLaughlin, Frank McLaughlin and Patrick McLaughlin.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord St., Peterborough. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery at a later date.
