LYNDEBOROUGH - Ruth Vroman Gorius, 69, of Lyndeborough passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Nov. 8, 2012, after a period of declining health.
She was born on May 28, 1943, in Corinth, N.Y., the daughter of Howard Vroman and Harriet Fensom Vroman.
Ruth graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. After raising her children, Ruth and her husband, C. J., owned a nursery in Putney, Vt., for 15 years. Ruth was an accomplished horticulturist and managed a full-service greenhouse as well as a gift store. She had a reputation for being able to grow the most difficult wildflowers from seed that she had collected. Ruth retired when she moved to N.H., but still enjoyed growing wildflowers. She was a member of the American Horticultural Society and was also an active parishioner of The Divine Mercy Parish in Peterborough.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 49 years, C.J. Gorius of Lyndeborough; her son, Aaron Gorius and his wife, Susan, of Upton, Mass., her daughter, Doreen McAllister and her husband, Mark, of Westminster, Vt.; her daughter, Jennifer Gosselin, and her husband, Keith, of North Hampton; and her sister, Elizabeth (Vroman) Blanchard, of Carmel, Calif. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas and Chelsea Gorius of Upton, Mass., and Erica and Tyson McAllister of Westminster, Vt.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord St., Peterborough. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish, 18 Vine St., Peterborough, with the Reverend Gerald Belanger, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will take place on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Milford.
