Thomas David Mitchell(1957 - 2013)

GREENVILLE - Thomas David Mitchell, 56, of Greenville, died Dec. 20, 2013, at his home with his family. Thomas was born July 4, 1957, in New Castle, De., the son of Vance (jr) and Elsie (Baker) Mitchell. He lived in Laurel, Md., for 34 years until his retirement from the federal government to Greenville in 2013.

Thomas was a gifted hardware design engineer, published writer and had just achieved his Amateur Radio license. He was always pursuing knowledge both to increase his understanding and advancement of his profession and passion for engineering and physics, but also just for the joy of learning in many other areas. Thomas was educated at the University of Delaware where he earned his Bachelor Degrees in both electrical engineering and in physics, and at John Hopkins University where he earned his Masters Degrees in the same. He also studied a semester each at MIT and at Virginia Tech. He held his Professional Engineer license in both Delaware and in Maryland. Thomas was married to his loving wife of 32 years, Judy Locklin Cole Mitchell.

In his quiet time Thomas loved to read, study history, hike, and design circuits. Both he and his wife, Judy, enjoyed doing medieval reenactments together.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Judy, his twin brother, Stephen J. Mitchell, of Maryland and his older brother, Vance Mitchell III, of Maryland. He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew C. Mitchell and his parents.

Graveside services will be held in the spring. Burial will be in the East Cemetery in Hollis, NH.

A memorial service will be held Feb 15, 2014 at the Amherst House in Columbia MD
