Dorothy S. Burnham passed away June 22, 2013 at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA. She was born in Stoddard, NH, on March 21, 1928, the second of seven children, to Donald K. and Lauraette (Cutter) Sawtelle.

After moving to Jaffrey at a young age, Dot graduated from Conant High School, Class of 1946. She then married Emile C. Proulx, where they both lived and worked at the Ark. Dot was a waitress, cook, housekeeper, caretaker, and worked for King Manufacturing before starting as a teller at Monadnock Savings Bank. After 23 years with the bank, she retired in 1993 as Assistant Treasurer.

Dot had a lifelong love for horses, and was often seen riding the trails around the Monadnock region. She was an accomplished carpenter and plumber, enjoying any time spent with a tool in her hand. Mowing pastures, mending fences, using her tractors to work on her property, was fun for her. Dot loved to cook the family favorites: cheeseburgers, pot roast, turkey casserole, pies and chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, to name only a few.

Her first husband of 29 years, Emile Proulx; her second husband of 10 years, Fred Richards; sister Helen Kemp and brother Lyman Sawtelle predeceased Dot.

Left with loving memories are her husband of 20 years, Paul Burnham; sons Jeff (wife Patty) Proulx and Joel (wife Cathy) Proulx, all of Jaffrey. Dot was the proud grandmother of Jessica (Dan) McClain of San Diego, CA; Jeffrey Proulx of Boones Mill, VA; Ben (Ruby) Proulx of Cedar Point, NC; Amy Proulx of Arlington, VA; and great grandchildren Samson, Gideon and Roselind Proulx in NC. Dot is also survived by her siblings: Stella Lundgren; Donald, Kenneth, and Arthur Sawtelle, many nieces and nephews, as well as Paul's children and their families.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dot's memory may be made to a favorite charity.

Visitation with family and friends will be on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Cournoyer Funeral Home in Jaffrey, 33 River Street, (Rte. 202) followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM in the chapel celebrating Dot's life. Burial will be private.
