JAFFREY - Douglas A. Smith, 68, of Jaffrey, NH, passed away at home, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 1, 2012. He was born on December 20, 1943 to Harold and Rose (Drapeau) Smith. He graduated from St. Mary High School in 1961 and was an original member of St. Mary Cavalier Drum and Bugle Corps. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Sterett and U.S.S. Halsey. He also completed 2 tours in Vietnam. Mr. Smith was a member of Humiston Post 11 American Legion and the League of a Thousand Men. Prior to his retirement in 2005 he worked at NH Ball Bearing in Peterborough. He was an artistic and talented person, especially on the piano and organ. He also enjoyed classical music, cooking, and cake decorating. He was a comfort and joy to all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his father in 1983 and mother in 1994. Family members include his sister Mrs. Dianne St. Amand and husband Paul, of Manchester; plus four aunts who include Mrs. Rose Drapeau and Mrs. Yvonne Ferland of Claremont, Mrs. Marge Johnson of Laconia, Mrs. Ruth Branch of Santa Cruz, CA, along with several cousins. He also leaves behind his nieces Ann St. Amand, Amy Gionet and husband Richard, nephew Paul St. Amand Jr., his wife Eileen and his grand-nephew Owen St. Amand, all of Manchester.
There will be no calling hours. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 11:00AM at St. Mary Church, 32 Central St., Claremont, NH 03743. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. The family suggests that donations may be made in his memory to The Precious Blood Monastery, 700 Bridge St., Manchester, NH 03104.
