WILTON - Richard Maki, 89, formerly of Wilton and Exeter, died Aug. 8, 2014, with his family by his side at the Riverwoods at Exeter nursing home. He was the son of Emil and Isa (Salonen) Maki. Richard was born in Milford, Jan. 9 1925.

Richard earned his rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 10 of Wilton. He served his country in the Army Air Force. After completing trade school Richard married his wife, Virginia R. (Jack) Maki, on June 14, 1959. They just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Richard was a Master Electrician and worked for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He also worked at the Naval Shipyard Prison. Richard retired from the shipyard in 1971.
Richard and his wife traveled to Finland and other European countries as well as the United States. He was an adventurer and loved to sail. He was a very talented problem-solver and technician. Richard was a member of the St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge No. 198, of York, Maine and received his 50-year pin. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Fadette #166, as a Past Patron, in 1969, in York, Maine.
Richard is survived by his wife, Virginia; his daughter, Carolyn Maki and her companion, Gary Armstrong and their son, Gary Armstrong, of Deerfield, N.H.; and two great-nephews, Benjamin and Jeremy Maki of Wilton. Richard was predeceased by his nephew Dennis Maki.
Family and friends are warmly invited to attend a celebration of Richard's life on Friday Aug. 15, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Michaud Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be with military honors in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Wilton, following the service. The arrangements are in the care of the Michaud Funeral Home, 32 Maple Street, Wilton.
