BOSCAWEN - Glendon E. Gadwah Sr., 88, of Boscawen passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, Oct. 29. He was born in Colebrook on a cold winter day, two days after Christmas on Dec. 27, 1923, to Victor and Jessie Gadwah, one of their nine children. He resided in Colebrook until he joined the United States Armed Forces in 1941. After completing his basic training in Louisiana, he joined General Patton's first tank division in World War II. He then went on to serve six years with the Army Corps of Engineers and the United Nations to build the Berma Trail through China.
After his years of service, he returned home to Colebrook and married his high school sweetheart, Ramona G. Bunnell, in 1949. Glendon and Ramona began their family of five children, Ronald, Robert, Patricia, Glen Jr. and James. In 1974 they lost their second son, Robert, and returned to their N.H. roots in Peterborough, where they resided until Ramona passed away in the spring of 1993.
In 1995 he met Ethel Eisele, his companion whom he shared the next 16 years with until losing her in the winter of 2011. In 2001 Glendon suffered a devastating spinal injury, confining him to a wheelchair for the remainder of his life, and in 2001 Glendon moved in with his youngest son, James.
He was predeceased by his first two sons, Ronald L. and Robert D. Gadwah; his brothers, Lenard, Clement, Mervin, Vern and Normand; and his sister, Hilda.
He is survived by his sister, Ester, and his brother, Victor Jr., both of Meriden, Conn.; his children, Patricia Senel, Glendon Jr. and his beloved son, James, who with the help of Joel F. Winchenbaugh and Glendon's home care companion, Jody Connell, cared for him the past 11 years in their home in Boscawen. In addition, Glendon is survived by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and close friends. Glendon will be missed and always remembered for his kind soul and humorous jokes.
A memorial service will be held at his home, 233 King St. in Boscawen on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please email James for more information at
