Patricia Anne Orbeton died April 24, at home in Peterborough, NH from ovarian cancer several weeks before her 66th birthday. Born in Plainfield, NJ, she grew up in Colonia, NJ, the eldest of seven, the daughter of Conrad and Anne Peterson. Patricia graduated from Woodbridge High School, and Wood Secretarial School in NYC, then worked as a secretary. She married Edward S. Gary in 1967 and later had a son, Michael, and a daughter, Melissa. Upon Edward's untimely death in 1975 , Patricia then decided that to support her young family, a professional career was a wise choice, and, after completing the general requirements for admission to Rutgers, she earned her B.S. in Physician Assistant (PA) from College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Rutgers Medical School in 1979. At that time New Jersey did not allow PA's to practice in-state, so she chose to move her family to Brookline, MA for a PA position at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA. While in Brookline, she met her future husband, Peter Orbeton, and the new family moved to Wayland, MA in 1981. After positions at Mt. Auburn and Harvard Vanguard in Brookline, Patricia went to MetroWest Medical Center in Natick, MA where she was a surgical first assist in the OR.

Patricia and Peter retired in 2009, and relocated to Peterborough, NH at Nubanusit Neighborhood and Farm, where she thoroughly enjoyed the rural life, its natural beauty, her co-housing community, the Monadnock region, and "Farm TV" out her windows.

Patricia served on the board for the Massachusetts Association of Physician Assistants, and as a member of the House of Delegates, American Association of Physician Assistants. She also served on the Parish Committee for First Parish Church in Wayland. Her interests were traveling, gardening, decorating, knitting, weaving, and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Peter, daughter Melissa Gabriel, her husband Michael, and grandsons Nathan and Andrew of Chelmsford, MA, grandson Justin Gary of Natick MA, and a son Michael Gary of Framingham, MA. Her mother Anne Peterson of Freehold, NJ, and her brothers and sisters; Conrad Peterson of Point Pleasant, NJ, James Peterson of Port Monmouth, NJ, Mary Pesciotta of Perinneville, NJ, Donald Peterson of Henderson, NC, Janet Maraffa of Freehold, NJ, and Christopher Peterson of Evans, GA; also former brothers-in-law, Neil, David and Dennis Gary of NJ, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Peterborough at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Sunday, May 19 at 2 PM, followed by a celebration at the neighborhood Common House.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your regional Gilda's Club, or the Sophia Gordon Cancer Center, Lahey Clinic, Burlington, MA. Maisy, her Coton de Tulear and constant source of companionship and comfort, suggests a local animal shelter.
