PETERBOROUGH - Margaret Sheppard Brown, 91, of Peterborough, died peacefully on August 25, 2013, at Summerhill Assisted Living. She was born on April 15, 1922 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Dr. Thomas Sheppard and Margaret (Hochswender) Sheppard.

Margaret attended Winchester Thurston High School in Pittsburgh, PA, and then earned her B.A. at the University of Pittsburgh in PA. She was a homemaker who had an interest in and talent for interior design. She enjoyed being active in her community as a volunteer at Monadnock Community Hospital and Sharon Arts Center, and as a member of the Dublin Garden Club. She also attended the Union Congregational Church in Peterborough. Margaret enjoyed gardening, needlepoint and knitting. She was an avid dog lover.
Margaret is survived by her three children, Katherine Hoffman, Nancy Hoffman and Linda Whalley; five grandchildren, Kristen Gresh, Geoffrey Gresh, Ashley Gresh, Matthew Whalley and Benjamin Whalley; and three great-grandchildren, Leyla Abarca Gresh, Liam Abarca Gresh and Audrey Gresh. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Ann Sheppard, of Pittsburgh, PA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 2 p.m. at the Union Congregational Church, 33 Concord St., Peterborough. The Reverend Jill Small and the Reverend Graham Ward will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Peterborough.
Because Margaret Sheppard Brown loved flowers, flowers would be appreciated by the family.
