Elfriede "Oma" Miller Obituary
ADRIAN - Elfriede "Oma" Miller, age 93, of Adrian passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, surrounded by her family at Lenawee Medical Care.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1925, in Pfungstadt, Germany, to Ludwig and Klara (Depperman) Becker. Elfriede met her future husband, Harold "Opa" Miller, when he was stationed in Germany during World War II. They were married in Pfungstadt. After the war they returned to America where she embraced her new homeland. Elfriede and Harold shared 52 years together before his passing in 1999.
Elfriede was a wonderful cook and used her culinary skills as a cook at Bixby Hospital. She enjoyed listening to music, especially polkas and German waltzes, was an avid bird watcher and ensured they had food through the seasons, and was known to be competitive in a game of Yahtzee. There are many good memories of Oma and Opa that demonstrated the love they had for their extended family. Oma especially loved sharing her knowledge and life experiences with her family.
She is survived by her children, Wilma (Maynard) Westgate, Bonnie Mason and Ida (Greg) Krill; son-in-law, Randy Sauber; sister, Gretal Whisler; and many of Oma and Opa's grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Elfriede was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; daughter, Addy Sauber; and son-in-law, Bob Mason.
Memorial services for Elfriede will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian, with Pastor Joel Sarrault officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
There will also be a Celebration of Life for Elfriede at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Lenawee. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.wagleyfuneralhomes.com.
