Maria R. Salinas Obituary
DETROIT - Maria R. Salinas, 84, of Detroit died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at Pomeroy Living Center and Sterling Skilled Nursing Facility in Sterling Heights.
Born March 7, 1934, in Rio Grande, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Marciano and Agapita (Garcia) Flores. She married the love of her life, Frank Salinas, in General Trevino, Mexico, in March 1952. He survives.
Maria worked for many years for General Motors. A woman of deep faith, she was very involved in her parish, St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Detroit, where she also belonged to a prayer group. She enjoyed hosting various social groups in her home and often served as an English-to-Spanish translator in her local community. Her greatest passion in life was her family, and in later years she especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Frank, are eight children, Rosemary Norris of Lincoln Park, Irene Salinas of Adrian, James Salinas of Detroit, Mimi (Allen) Swantek of Leonard, Cindy Salinas of Adrian, Gregory Salinas of Hartland, Carlos Salinas of Detroit and Mario Salinas of Belleville; three siblings, Jose Arturo Flores and Alma Flores, both of Monterrey, Mexico; and Marciano Flores of Mission, Texas; 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Preceding Maria in death, besides her parents, were five sisters, Manuela Flores, Rebecca Delos Santos, Laurenci Martinez, Maria Garcia and Estela Garcia; a brother, Juan Flores; and two grandsons, Bobby Marshall and Frank Ridolfi.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson, concluding with a prayer vigil service to be recited at 5:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass for the soul of Maria Salinas will be celebrated by Father Tomy Kattikanayil at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson. Rite of committal will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Hudson.
