YPSILANTI - Richard (Dick) Paul Miller, age 91, of Ypsilanti, Mich., passed into his Heavenly home on Aug. 11, 2018, with his family and pastor at his side.

Dick was born in Toledo, Ohio, the oldest of six children, to Fred C. and Ruth E. (Cassady) Miller. He graduated from Adrian High School, Adrian, Mich., in 1945 and immediately entered the Army Air Force where he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands for nine months. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Adrian and married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Hagadorn, in 1948. They were married for 70 years. Dick sold AAL (now Thrivent) life insurance for 10 years, then enrolled at the University of Michigan School of Education. He received his A.B. Ed in 1964 and M.A. Ed in 1967. After teaching seventh and eighth grades at Frost Junior High in Livonia, Mich., for 30 years, he retired in 1994.

Dick was a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, Mich., where he served in many capacities in the 64 years he attended. He also served on the WELS Michigan District Missions Board, and was a regent of Huron Valley Lutheran High School. Dick was a past president of the Ypsilanti Kiwanis where he enjoyed many fond friendships. He also was a member of the Redford Model Train Club where he spent many happy hours.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Mary Westgate Hauter, Robert Miller, Keith Miller, John Miller and an infant sibling. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three children, David (Barbara) Miller, Jane (Bill) Mangold, and James (Diane O'Connell) Miller; sister, Patricia Sells; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered.

A memorial service will be held on Sept. 15, 2018, at Salem Lutheran Church on Scio Church Road in Ann Arbor. Pastor Jacob Haag will officiate the 11 a.m. service. There will be visitation before the service at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1360 Pauline Blvd., Ann Arbor, Mich., or Ypsilanti Kiwanis Club, PO Box 980646, Ypsilanti, MI 48198.
