Calvelage, Maneta - Delphos  
MANETA CALVELAGE DELPHOS — Maneta J. Calvelage, 89, of Delphos, passed away peacefully at 11:10 p.m. December 24, 2014 at the Vancrest Healthcare Center of Delphos surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 28, 1924 in Delphos to Martin and Lula (Beckman) Wahmhoff. On October 12, 1946 she married Leander H. Calvelage. They had been married for 60 years. She was a graduate of Delphos St. John's and received her business degree from Lima Business College. She retired in 1990 as co-owner with her husband of Tri-County Plumbing, Heating and Hardware in Delphos. She volunteered at Delphos St. John's church, rectory and schools, the Thrift Shop, Vancrest and St. Rita's Medical Center. She was a social butterfly who thoroughly enjoyed her social outings with her many friends. She was a great supporter and the biggest fan of her grandchildren's activities, sports and academic achievements. She was the heart and soul of the family who will love and miss her all of their lives. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her sister, Beatrice Berelsman; two sisters-of-the-heart, Maneta Westrich Heck and Kay Westrich Weaver; and two beloved pets, Mitzi and Dolly. She is survived by her four children: David and Kathy Calvelage of Englewood, FL, Phyllis and Jeff Kinkle of Delphos, Rog and Debra Calvelage of Delphos and Brian and Jenny Calvelage of Girard, PA; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, plus nieces, nephews and cousins. The family noted and greatly appreciated the wonderful care she received from Dr. Hux and the staff at Delphos Vancrest Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Daniel Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Strayer Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by a C.D. of A. Service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame or St. John's Parish Foundation. Online condolences may be shared at www.strayerfuneralhome.com .

CANARY ROCKFORD — Ruth W. Canary, 91, died at 11:44 p.m. Dec. 20, 2014, at her daughter's residence surrounded by her loving family. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Celina. Pastor Ken Baker will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Childers-Root, D.D. - Lima  
D.D. CHILDERS-ROOT LIMA — "D. D." Childers-Root, 86, died peacefully at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 15, 2014, at Springview Manor Nursing Home in Lima, Ohio. "D. D." was born Mary Diane Durbin on March 05, 1928, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Francis W. Durbin and Agnes (Kelly) Durbin. She was a graduate of St Rose High School and a graduate of Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Cincinnati, Ohio. After working at various doctor's offices and St. Rita's, she retired from Lima Memorial Hospital. DD was a founding member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Parish council member, a lay Eucharistic Minister, member of the church Choir, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. She helped to create the St. Charles Funeral Choir and the Parish Nurse Program. She was always a champion of connecting with people. Where she saw a need, she took action. She was an avid reader, loved to play bridge, was a proud Cincinnati Reds Fan, attending 15 consecutive Opening Days and as the granddaughter of WW Durbin who served in FDR's administration, an unabashed New Deal Democrat. She lived by three tenants: Faith, Family and Friends. She was a devoted Catholic, loved being surrounded by her family and extended family, and had incredible relationships with countless friends. The local restaurant economy lost a faithful breakfast, lunch and dinner patron. She was proud to be from Lima and to have worked in the health care field as an RN in various capacities, following the Durbin family motto of 'others'. In 1975 DD and Jerry bought the Dairy Queen in Wapakoneta, Ohio. She then managed the daily operations for six seasons, earning the Silver Cone Award as the cleanest DQ in the district. She is survived by three sons, William E. (Deborah) Childers, of Kent, OH, Mark A. Childers, of Cincinnati, OH, and Matthew D. Childers, of Lima, OH; four grandchildren, Sarah Childers, Benjamin (Elizabeth) Childers, Patrick Childers, Andrew Childers and Maxfield Carl; a sister, Sally Durbin- Wolfer; She was a beloved aunt to many nephews & nieces and several great nephews & nieces, and former daughter in law, Denise Driehaus. She was preceded in death by: first husband, Gerald Childers who died January 24, 1981; second husband Albert Root Jr; a daughter, Mary Frances Childers; step mother, Florence (Hughes) Durbin; sister, Margaret M. Robenalt; brothers-in-law, John A. Robenalt and Ed Wolfer. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio. A Wake Service will be at 8:00 P.M. following the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lima, OH. Father Stephen Blum and Rev. David M. Ross will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Lima Central Catholic High School. Condolences may be expressed at www.chamberlainhuckeriede.com .

Combs, George - Ottawa  
GEORGE COMBS OTTAWA — George W. Combs, 84 of Ottawa, died at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. He was born February 22, 1930 in Leipsic to the late Elmer and Lilly (Leatherman) Combs. On September 4, 1954 he married Georgine "Jean" Snow who survives in Ottawa. Also surviving are 3 children: Darrell Combs of Ottawa, Darlene (Herbert) Radabaugh and Lori Young both of Columbus Grove; 7 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by 5 brothers: Glen, Merle, Bill, Junior, and Lowell Combs; a sister: Ola Leip; and a grandson: Michael Moore. George was a welder for General Dynamics. He was a Marine veteran during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed taking care of the lawn and the woods. His faithful companion was his dog, Sammy. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Rev. James Fry officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor's choice. VIVIAN CUNNINGHAM WAPAKONETA — Vivian JoAnn Cunningham, 79, of Wapakoneta, died 3:44 p.m., Wed. Dec. 24, 2014, at Lima Memorial Health System. She was born May 21, 1935, in Maplewood, OH, the daughter of Donald C. & Ruth A. (Lentz) Stahler, Sr., who preceded her in death. Survivors include, 3 children, Robert D. Cunningham, Jr., Rockford, IL, Dianna (Jeffrey) Gehrlich, Fairfield, OH, Patricia (Anthony) Miller, Wapakoneta, 4 grandchildren, Marcy, Amber, Zachary, & Tyler, 3 great grandchildren, Dylan, Alyssa, & Gavin, a brother, Donald (Cheryl) Stahler, Jr., Wapakoneta, a niece & many nephews and their families, a former husband, Robert D. Cunningham Sr., Winterpark, FL. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Norma Jean Fox, and an infant Patricia Ann Stahler. JoAnn worked for Stahler Trucking and Leasing, Wapakoneta, and was retired from Walt Disney World, Orlando, FL. A 1953 graduate of Blume High School, she was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445. She was also a former member of St. Marks' Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta. JoAnn enjoyed spending time with her family and spoke of her children & grandchildren with much love and pride! She also enjoyed painting, reading, baking, playing games, and watching tennis, golf, and ice skating. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tues. Dec. 30, 2014, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Pastor Mark Bauer officiating. Burial is to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Mon., and 1 hr. prior to the service, Tues. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lima Memorial Health System Intensive Care Unit or Respiratory Care. Condolences may be directed to www.bayliffandeleyfh.com .
