HENRY HINDS

LIMA — Henry Heath Hinds, age 88, of Lima, died peacefully at 12:45 p.m. December 1, 2013, at home.

He was born December 27, 1924 to Henry Heath and Della Marie Brown Hinds, both parents preceded him in death. On July 1, 1949 he married Lois A. Boerner, who survives in Lima.

He is survived by 3 sons, John P. (Chris) Hinds, David (Linda) Hinds, Phil Hinds and daughter-in-law Mary Hinds all of Lima; 8 grandchildren Johnny, Matt, Paul, Brian, Brandy and Olivia Hinds. Crystal Varno (Mike), and Alyssa Eckert, a sister, Linda (Rod) Smith of Findlay, Ohio; sister-in-law, Rosemary Hinds of Yulee, Florida; sister-in-law, Mary Hinds of Plainville, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara E. Hinds; a son, Craig E. Hinds; brothers, Wayne and Jim Hinds and sisters, Louise Hinds and Norma Jean Watson.

Henry retired from Ford Motor Company as a General Foreman in 1984. He was a member of the Lima Run & Jog Club and was also a lifetime member of the American Youth Hostels. He was an avid cyclist and loved swimming. Henry was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Henry competed in five marathons, qualifying for the Boston Marathon in 1982, participated in numerous (103) triathlons throughout the country and won "The World Triathlon International Distance" in Huntington, Ontario in his age group in 1992. He made many friends in the world of Triathlons and was often called "The Beast on the Bike." Henry enjoyed cars, horses, scuba diving, photography, and music.

Henry enjoyed working in his yard but most of all he enjoyed his family and grandchildren. He graduated from South High School and was an honors law student at ONU. He also served in the U.S Army during the Korean conflict.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00, Wednesday, December 4, at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home in Cridersville. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
