KENNETH ANDERSON

LIMA — Kenneth J. Anderson, 72, passed away after a long period of illness at 7:34 pm Saturday, May 24, 2014 at St. Rita's Medical Center.

Kenneth was born January 26, 1942 in Lima to the late Nevel K. and Ruby (Moore) Anderson. On March 26, 1961 he married Carolyn S.S. (Smith) Anderson, who survives in Lima.

Ken was a 1960 graduate of Shawnee High School. He completed the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council in May 1973, and the Ohio Academy of Hypnosis of Cuyahoga Falls Ohio in 1987. Ken participated in Roller Derby at the Indian Lake Rollarena at Russells Point, Ohio. He started work in 1959 at Clyde Evans, where he worked the night shift as a Meat Cutter. In 1962 Ken went to work for Pangles Master Markets as a Meat Cutter, until 1980 when he became Security Manager for Pangles until 1984.

Mr. Anderson joined the Fort Shawnee Police Department in 1972 and became Police Chief in 1979. In 1982 he started Anchor Recovery as a security consultant for grocery stores, which became Starboard Corporation in 1986. Ken retired in 1990 after becoming disabled due to heart problems. He was a member the National Association of Chiefs of Police, The Blue Knights, United Food & Commercial Workers International Union, formerly known as Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Union.

Ken and Carolyn were blessed with three children, Robert K. (Cyndi) Anderson, of Lima, Donald D. (Debra J.) Anderson, of Bluffton, and Kitty Sue (Earl Dunlap) Knisley, of Columbus Grove; ten grandchildren, Miranda (Greg) Sterling, Katrina (Rick) Zizelman, Timothy (Hannah) Tussing, Ashley "L.A." Anderson, Robert "Bud" Anderson Jr., Sharlene Rose Anderson, Johnmichael Cody Anderson, John William Knisley, who preceded him in death, Sarah Bryn (Andrew) Hauenstein, and Kit-ann Morie Knisley; and ten great grandchildren.

Other survivors include two sisters, Nancy (James) Wilson, and Louise (Harold) Taylor, and a brother, Warren (Marolyn) Pratt.

Services will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, May 29, 2014 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Bryan Bucher will officiate. Burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the funeral home.
