Richard Bice


LIMA — Richard L. Bice, 76, passed away at 2:41 a.m. March 19, 2014 at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born on May 20, 1937, in Lima to George & Emma Bosch Bice, who have preceded him in death. On June 23, 1960, he married Judith L. Lakin, who survives in Lima.

Richard was a 1955 graduate of Shawnee High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force, until being honorably discharged in 1959. Mr. Bice retired as a manager of customer service with the United States Postal Service after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, and the companionship of his dogs. He loved cheering on the Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers, and Browns, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He and his family enjoyed spending time at their home on Dale Hollow Lake, Tennessee, and spending time with their friends there. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and frugality.

Survivors include four children, Blain & Suzanne Bice, of Hendersonville, NC, Kent & Elizabeth Bice, of Lima, Kendra & Terry Vaughn, of Monroe, TN, and Tiffany & Scott Kost, of Memphis, TN; seven grandchildren, Lynn, Kyle, Courtney, Allen, Tyler, Lauren, and Maggie; two step-grandchildren, Zach and Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Trevor; two brothers, Donald & Betty Bice, of Bowling Green, KY and Robert & Shirley Bice, of Lima; and a sister, Sally Stoddard, of VA.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia LaRue.

Services will begin at 12 noon Saturday, March 22, 2014 at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Tom Dearth will officiate and military rites will be by the VFW Post 1275 and the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
