ROBERT KRUGER

LIMA — Robert F. Kruger, 90, passed away at 1:40 a.m. March 29, 2014 at St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born on May 28, 1923, in Toledo to Fin & Elizabeth "Bessie" Creps Kruger, who have preceded him in death. On July 17, 1948, he married Doris I. Young, who survives in Lima.

He was a 1941 graduate of Lima Central High School. He then took a Tool & Die Maker course at Westinghouse and was accepted as an apprentice. Then in March of 1943, Robert entered the Army Air Force and proudly served until being honorably discharged as a tech sergeant in September of 1945. Following his service, he returned to Westinghouse, working in the tool room before becoming a manufacturing engineer and retired after 42.5 years in 1984 as an aerospace engineer. He donated 18.5 gallons of blood to the Red Cross over many years. He enjoyed woodworking, putting together jigsaw puzzles, gardening and fishing.

Survivors include four children, Gregory A. & Peg Kruger, of Harrod, Deborah A. Kruger, of Lima, Theresa K. & Stanley Spencer, of Bluffton, and Raymond L. Kruger, of Harrod; 12 grandchildren, Lisa & Mike Newland, Lynnette Garver, Leann Kruger, Kevin & Mindy Kruger, Jordan Kruger, Joe & Jill Miller, Christina & Nathan Seidner, Alicia Spencer, Lydia Spencer, Isaac Spencer, Travis & Joann Kruger, and Wesley Kruger; 15 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Elizabeth Meyer, of Lima.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Kruger; and his brother, Andrew Kruger.

A time of gathering will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at CHILES – LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, EASTSIDE CHAPEL. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

According to his wishes, Robert's body will be donated to The Ohio State University Division of Anatomy.
