WENDELL LONG

LIMA — Wendell Long Jr., 87, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 in St. Rita's Medical Center.

He was born December 15, 1925 in Lima to Wendell C. & Nellie Long Sr., who preceded him in death.

Wendell was a life member of VFW Post #1275 since 1973. He was a member of the Lima Bricklayers Union Local #35 for 50 years. Mr. Long last worked for Diamond Distributing. Wendell was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II in the 869th Ordinance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company. He was an avid golfer, and bowler. He enjoyed playing cards, and loved his Ohio State Buckeyes.

He is survived by his son, Joseph L. Brabant, of Lima, and four grandchildren, Joe Brabant, of Pinehurst, NC., Brenda (Al) O'Quinn, of Kearnysville, WV., Ronda Carder, of Elida, and Steve (Jennifer) Brabant, of Aberdeen, NC , and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jacobs and Naomi Schaublin, and one great grandson, Andrew William Carder.

Friends may call from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at CHILES - LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Military rites will be provided by the VFW #1275 and United States Army at 7:00 p.m. His final resting place will be in Arlington Cemetery.
