SPENCERVILLE — Winfred E. "Bud" Agness, 88, formerly of Grover Hill, died at 9:55 a.m. Nov. 25, 2013, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville.
He was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Grover Hill to William "Billy" and Pearl Hoy Agness, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 3, 1945, he married Mary H. Wilson, who survives. They were married for 68 loving years.
Mr. Agness was a graduate of Grover Hill High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He owned a milk route after the war, picking up at area farms and delivering to Defiance Milk Products. He was an insurance agent for Western & Southern Insurance Co., Lima, for 17 years. He and his wife were owners of MariStan Co., Spencerville, for more than 20 years, manufacturing infant wear that was sold in New York City and around the country. He retired as owner/operator of Bud's Dairy Freeze, Haviland. His family will miss his witty sense of humor and his devotion to family and friends. He was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed bowling and fishing, and was an avid baseball fan.
Survivors also include a son, William "Bill" Agness, of Lima; a daughter, Yvonne Murdick, of Worthington; and his granddog, Shelby.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. The Rev. Keith Hamblin will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery, with military rites by the Spencerville Veterans.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
