DONALD WHETSTONE

WAPAKONETA — Donald E. Whetstone, 77, of Wapakoneta, died 11:10 a.m., Wed. July 16, 2014, at Wapakoneta Manor. He was born Aug. 30, 1936, in Lima, the son of Virgil & Mabel (Hines) Whetstone, who preceded him in death. On June 18, 1955, he married Rita G. Place, and she survives.

Survivors include, 3 children, Deborah (Mike) Stolzenburg, Melanie (Gary) Runkle, & Derrick (Leeann) Whetstone, all of Wapakoneta, 5 grandchildren, Tim (Gerry Ann) Stolzenburg, Troy (Nikki) Stolzenburg, Jesse (Kim) Emrick, Brock (Adrian) Whetstone, & Amanda Whetstone, 8 great grandchildren, Damien & Cameron Emrick, Aidan, Lainey, & Isaiah Whetstone, Addison, Colton, & Ava Stolzenburg, A sister-in-law, Sharon Whetstone, Lima.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Whetstone.

Don worked as a heavy equipment operator with Peterson Construction, Wapakoneta. A 1954 graduate of Buckland High School, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, and the American Legion Post #330, both of Wapakoneta. He was a former member of the V.F.W. Post #8445, Wapakoneta and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Celina. He restored a 1929 Model A Ford and enjoyed participating in and attending car shows.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Sun. July 20, 2014, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta, Pastor Adrian Sunday officiating. Burial is to follow in the Buckland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., Sat. at the funeral home.
