LIMA — Fred T. Butler, 87, of Lima, died at 9:50 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Shawnee Manor. He was born September 13, 1926, in Lima, to Glen R. and Alice (Thomson) Butler who preceded him in death. On January 18, 1952, he married Wanda L. Leatherman who died July 17, 2002. Two sons, Robert T. Butler and James W. Butler, and a sister, Claire Loggi, also preceded Mr. Butler in death.
Following graduation from Lima Central High School in 1944, Fred served two years in the U.S. Navy, after which he attended and later graduated from the College of Pharmacy at Ohio State University in Columbus. After receipt of his pharmacy degree, Fred joined his father, his uncle Guy Butler and cousin Lowell Butler as a practicing pharmacist at Butler's Drug Store at the corner of Main and Kibby Streets in Lima.
Fred is survived by a grandson, Taylor Butler of Huron, OH and a daughter-in-law, Kate Butler of Ft. Collins, CO. Survivors also include his cousin, Lowell (Jane) Butler and their children, Steve, Chris and Mark Butler; the children of his late cousin Coit Black; and the children of his late cousin Alice Holbrook.
Fred was a former member of Market Street Presbyterian Church, a Past President and longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, and a former member of the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club, the Indian Lake Yacht Club and Shawnee Country Club.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, from 2-5 p.m. in SIFERD-ORIANS FUNERAL HOME. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
