JAMES SETTLEMIRE

LIMA — James Lee "Jim" Settlemire, 90, formerly of Lima, OH passed away Friday April 25, 2014 at Otterbein – St. Marys.

He was born October 1, 1923 in Perry Twp. – Allen Co., OH to Chester and Dolly (Marshall) Settlemire. On November 9, 1944 in Sloan, IA he married Patricia Clark, who survives at Otterbein – St. Marys.

Also survived by: daughter Mary Claire (Tom) Rampe of Celina, OH, son James P. (Pat) Settlemire of Loveland, OH, son Michael D. (Marijo) Settlemire of Huntsville, AL; 9 grandchildren: Kelly Myers, Christopher Rampe, Patricia Rampe, Jennifer Badger, Jessica Hazelwood, Jim Settlemire, Matthew Settlemire, Michel Wynn and Melinda Settlemire; Jim was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren; sister Donna M. Kerr of Menomenee Falls, WI.

Preceded in death by: parents Chester and Dolly Settlemire, infant son Joseph Settlemire, sister Margurite Kehres, brother Donald L. Settlemire

He was a graduate of Shawnee High School. He then enlisted in the Army Air Force during World War II, serving as a B-17 pilot flying 22 missions over Germany. Mr. Settlemire served 35 years in the Air Force Reserve, retiring as LTCOL.

He was engaged in dairy farming and later owned Courtesy Motors in Lima.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, where he volunteered many years with the men's Breakfast, and was a strong supporter of Lima Central Catholic High School while his children attended and many years after. In addition, he was a member of VFW, BPOE # 54, the Reserve Officers Association. served as a volunteer fireman for Perry Twp. and also served on the Allen Co. Soil and Water Conservation board of supervisors.

Jim dearly loved his family, and supported his nine grandchildren through their many activities and attended each of their graduations from high school and college in eight states.

His retirement years were spent together with Patricia traveling around the country in their RV, and spending the winter months in Florida. Each year, they also planted a huge vegetable garden and delighted sharing the fresh produce with neighbors and friends.

A memorial mass will be scheduled at St. John's Catholic Church in Lima at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be directed to St. John's Catholic Church or the Perry Twp. Fire Department.
