RICHARD MARTIN

DELPHOS — Richard Alan Martin, 69, died at 2:50 a.m. April 16, 2014, at Lima Memorial Health System, with his loving family surrounding him.

He was born Jan. 16, 1945, in Lima to Ernest and Dorothy Crider Martin, who preceded him in death. On Feb. 18, 1968, he married Cathy Smith, who survives in Delphos. They were remarried on Sept. 25, 1993.

Mr. Martin retired from John Mansville, Defiance, and had worked at Trim Trends and Century Link. He was an Army veteran serving in Korea and Vietnam. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 3660, Defiance and AMVETS Post 39, Lakeview. He was a member of Bass Masters of Indian Lake, where he fished in its tournament for more than 25 years. He loved fishing, painting and playing cards and games. He loved rock 'n' roll and could name any singer to any song. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors also include a daughter, Nancy Martin Clay, of Delphos; a son, Ross (Anja) Miller, of Russells Point; two sisters, Judy Mayer, of Delphos, and Linda VanHoose, of Lakeview; five brothers, Gary (Arlene) Martin, of Bellefontaine, Tom (Deb) Martin, of Dublin, Ohio, Don (Elaine) Martin, of Lima, Steve Martin, of Bellefontaine, Dennis (Barb) Martin, of Dayton; six grandchildren, Lucas and MaeLynn Clay, of Delphos, and Avery, Scarlette, Claire and Cooper Miller, of Russells Point; two sisters-in-law, Dianna (Norbert McEvoy) Bowers, of Delphos, and Marlene (Roger) Larson, of Forest Park, Ga.; and many beautiful friends including special friends, Rick and Shirley Layson, of Jonesboro, Ga., Phil and Chris Campbell, of Convoy, and Delphia Kiggins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Martin; and a nephew, Mark VanHoose.

Services will begin at 6 p.m. today at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, with military rites by the Delphos Veterans Council. The Rev. David Howell will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services today at the funeral home.
