LIMA Russel E. Hardin, 89, of Lima, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 29, 2014 surrounded by his family. He lived a good life and was dearly loved by his large family and many others who knew him. Russ loved God, his family and his friends. He was a selfless man who gave freely of his time, his talents and his treasure to anyone in need.

Russ farmed in Westminster for 43 years and worked full-time at Buckeye Truck for 10 years until his 80th birthday. He was past president of Cattleman's Association, was a Eucharistic Minister at St. John's and on the school board. He was a navy veteran in World War II.

He was the beloved husband of Dolores for 67 years. Wonderful father of Mary (Dennis) Polter, Maureen Missler, Sheila Hardin (deceased), Russell James Hardin, Joseph (Stephanie) Hardin, Margaret Hardin, Bridget McPheron (deceased), Michael James Hardin (deceased) and Nora Hardin.

He was adored by his grandchildren: Lisa (Ray) Tennant, Matt Polter, Melissa (Geoff) Hahm, Jeff (Katie Moore) Zapp, Keary Missler, Jamie (Jen) Dimond, Josh (Rachael) Dimond, Maura Dimond, Sarah (Vito) Anzelmi, Amy Harkins, Jenny Crowell, Tyler (Tiffany) Hardin, Megan Hardin, Nathan (Meredith) Schrein, Jeremy Schrein, Taylor (Scott) McGillivray, E. James McPheron, Nicole (Luke) Simonich, Russell Nash Hardin and Lily Hardin.

He was an amazing great-grandfather to: Riley & Libby Tennant, Jack, Ryan & Will Polter, Christian , Alex & Olivia Hahm, Regan Dimond, Beatrix & Zoey Dimond, Siena, Max & Geovanni Anzelmi, Kailyn Crowell & Cormac Sanchez, Carson Harkins, Reid Schrein, Roean & Selah McGillivray, Jaxen & Kemper McPheron, Tyler Montague, Tristan & Trevor Hardin, Ezra & Ember Simonich, Scarlett Hardin and Declan Sanchez (deceased).

He is survived by a brother, Harold (Joyce) Hardin and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hardin, along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by sisters Helen Copeland and Irene Trout, and his brother, Donald Hardin.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at St. Rose Catholic Church, with Fr. David Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 2-4, and 6-8 p.m., at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
