BLUFFTON — Kay Assmann, 108 passed away on May 28, 2014 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was born Carrie Lucille Neuenschwander on May 7th, 1906 to Reuben and Caroline (Stoecker) Neuenschwander in Pandora, Ohio.

Kay received a two year teaching certificate from Ohio Northern University; taught two years at Stager School – a one room school in Allen county; continued her education at Grant Hospital, Columbus, Ohio and became a registered nurse. After public health nursing she married the love of her life, Bernard J. Assmann, and had four daughters. She faced tragedy when she lost her first child, Janice, at the age of five years and, in 1953, the death of her 43 year old husband. After Bernard's death she returned to nursing at The Ohio State University Hospital and retired after working there for 18 years.

She was a member of North Broadway Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio; the Clintonville Women's Club, Grant Hospital Guild, and a seventy-four year member of the Corinthian Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She maintained her home until she was 96 years of age and was adored by her neighbors. She loved to play bridge and could take on the best of anyone in Scrabble. English literature was her love.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings: Pearl (Sawyer), Clyde, Clif, and Alta Neuenschwander. She is survived by three daughters: Jeannine Sezon, Brenda Franz (Thomas), Christine Collins (Michael); nine grandchildren: Lynda Sezon (Doug Leiker), Bernard Sezon (Joanne), Kathleen Woolfe (Timothy), Laurie Donnelly (Rob), David Franz (Kitty), Lisa Johnson (David), Amy Scheinler (RC), Stephen Collins (Vallie)and Andrew Collins (Mary Jo). She will be missed by her 16 great grandchildren. All have been blessed by her love and grace.

A funeral service will take place at 3580 Road R, Pandora, Ohio – the family homestead – at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 7th.

In case of inclement weather, services will be held at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. Burial will follow at the Reformed Mennonite Cemetery, Bluffton, Ohio.
