SPENCERVILLE — Mary Alice Stemen, 91, died at 2:16 p.m. Nov. 20, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center from complications from a fall at her residence Nov. 18.
She was born Sept. 13, 1922, in the home that would be her lifelong residence in Spencer Township, to Henry H. and Ida Rempfer Schwartz, who preceded her in death. On June 4, 1941, she married Carl F. Stemen, who died Oct. 10, 2006.
Mrs. Stemen was a 1940 graduate of Spencerville High School. She had worked in production at Ohio Decorative Products Co., Spencerville, and at Fisher Cheese Co., Wapakoneta. She had also been a cook at Mackenzie Child Care, Lima, and Elida Child Care. She enjoyed quilting, growing flowers, reading, cooking and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Rodney G. Stemen, of Spencerville; two grandchildren, Jamie Lynne Stemen and Adam Richard Stemen, both of Spencerville; and a sister-in-law, Doris Schwartz, of Spencerville.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Carl Stemen; and three brothers, Chester (Addie), Virgil (Martha) and Clarence Schwartz.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. Pastor Neal Whitney will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
