Thomas Hoyt

OTTAWA — Thomas R. Hoyt, 70, of Ottawa died early Sunday morning, January 28, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. Tom was born February 12, 1947 in Lima to the late Norman and Bertha (Lammers) Hoyt. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Edna (Wagner) who lives in Ottawa. He is survived by his children William (Carrie) Hoyt of Perrysburg, Donald (Annissa) Hoyt of Columbus Grove, Paul Hoyt of Ottawa, Frank Hoyt of Columbus Grove, and Christine (Jason) Schroeder of St. Augustine, FL; 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Schroeder, brothers Ronald and James (Cathy). Preceding him in death are his first wife, Patricia (Carroll) and two grandchildren: Jacob and Sierra; brother in law: Gene Schroeder, and sister in law: Lois Hoyt.

Tom was a retired truck driver and drove for 45+ years and 5 million miles for companies including K&L Ready Mix, Cooper Tire, and B&B Motor Lines. He was a US Army veteran during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Glandorf Rod & Gun Club, Leipsic Hunting & Fishing Club, Ottawa VFW, AMVETS, American Legion, Teamsters Union, and the Eagles. Tom was also a retired volunteer fireman with the Glandorf Fire Department.

Tom loved socializing with friends and family in his shop, deer hunting, following NASCAR, and trailer camping. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and driving them around in his golf cart. He was hardworking, friendly, seemed to know everyone, and will be sorely missed.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, officiated by Fr. Tony Fortman. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with graveside rites by Ottawa American Legion Post #60, Ottawa VFW Post #9142 and the AMVETS. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa, where a scripture service will be held at 1:45 p.m., an Ottawa American Legion, VFW and AMVETS service at 7:00 p.m. and a Glandorf Volunteer Fire Dept service at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Home Health & Hospice or the Putnam County CAP program.
