LIMA — Harold E. Vermillion, age 84 of Lima, died at 11:55 a.m., Sunday, March 9, 2014 at St. Rita's Medical Center. He was born July 30, 1929 in Lima, Ohio; the son of the late Ralph Virgil and Mary Catherine Welbaum Vermillion. He married Velva C. Potter, who died February 8, 2013.

Mr. Vermillion worked as a supervisor for 33 years with the Easter Tire Company in Lima. He retired in 1997 as the maintenance supervisor with the City of Lima Police Department where he had worked for 17 years.

He was a U.S. Army Military Police Veteran during the Korean War stationed in Germany. He was a life member of the Elida V.F.W. Post 6741.

Survivors include five sons – Robert K. (Thanh) Vermillion of Middleburg, FL; Harold R. (Mary) Vermillion of Wapakoneta; John A. (Linda) Vermillion of Kenton; Douglas D. Vermillion of Lima; Kevin S. (Patty) Vermillion of Lima; 5 granddaughters, 3 grandsons; and 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers – Russell L. (Faye) Vermillion of Minnesota; William A. (Pamela) Vermillion of Lima; 2 sisters – Alberta (Don Sadler) Lee of Lima; and Lois Irene (Larry) Risser of Lima.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. Charles Martindell will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima. Military rites will be observed by V.F.W. Post 1275 of Lima.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
