THE REV. CHARELS COOLEY

CRIDERSVILLE — The Rev. Charles F. (Chuck) Cooley, 95, died at 10 p.m. March 21, 2014, at Otterbein Cridersville.

He was born June 27, 1918, in Ashtabula to Merrill F. and Nelle E. Copeland Cooley, who preceded him in death.

On February 28, 1942, he married (Martha) Louise Knipper, who died January 26, 2009.

He was a United Methodist pastor, primarily serving in campus ministry at Ohio U. Wesley Foundation, then the W.F. at Western Michigan U. and later King's Way Fellowship at Ohio State. as a seminary student he was pastor at Cairo, and his last pastorate was Columbus Westgate.

A Pacifist, he was a conscientious objector, serving in Civilian Public Service during WWII. Since retiring he wrote a self- published book about CPS based on his correspondence with Louise. He was instrumental in organizing Midwest Peacemakers, which encouraged non- violence and peace.

Survivors include his brother, Franklin (Alice) Coole, of Elida; a niece Sharon (William) Kelley, of Springfield; three nephews, William Cooley, David (Amanda) Cooley, and Kevin (Barb) Cooley, all of Lima; great-nieces Lauren (Robert) Bebout, of Loveland, Shannon (Grady) Wood, of Elida and Jamie (Marcello) Martinez of Colorado Springs; and great-nephews, Craig Kelley, of Springfield, Colin Kelley, of Cincinnati, Jarred Briem and Joshua Briem, both of Lima, and Dean Cooley, of Lima.

Cremation services were provided by Bayliff and Son Funeral Home in Cridersville.

A memorial service will be at Newcomer's Funeral Home, Dublin-Granville Road., Columbus, at a later date.
