CRIDERSVILLE — James B. Nance, 90, passed away at 1:45 a.m. May 26, 2014, at Otterbein Cridersville. He was born May 31, 1923 in Lima, to Byron E. and Gladys R. Fisher Nance who preceded him in death. On April 23, 1946 he married Fern Elaine Cox Nance who preceded him in death on February 3, 2010.
He proudly served in the United States Army as a construction machine operator from 1943 until being honorably discharged in 1946. He then worked for the Lima Tank Depot as a heavy equipment operator before his retirement in 1983. After retirement, he worked for Dave Good Contracting. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and golfing, when he was younger he also enjoyed hunting. He was a very active longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his nephew and caregiver, Jim (Shirley) Fridley of Elida; brother-in-law, Lee Wortman of Fort Wayne, IN; and several nieces nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Wortman.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30th at CHILES - LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Pastor Dan Campbell will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery following the service, with military rites. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
