BLUFFTON — Robert E. Barnett, 94, died at 12:04 am on Thursday, May 29 at Bluffton Hospital. He was born on August 27, 1918 in Whitehouse, Ohio to the late Paul Barnett and Bertha (Studer) Barnett. He was married for 71 years to Mary Marshall Barnett who survives. Their wedding took place in San Antonio, Texas December 24, 1942.

Other survivors include their children, David (Marilyn) Barnett of Albany, NY, Jayne (Richard) McGarrity of Bluffton, Jim (Nancy) Barnett of Syracuse, NY, nine grandchildren, Ian Barnett, Jeannie Chong, Matthew Barnett, Beth Retkwa, Mary Barnett, Joel Barnett, Katherine Walton, Robert McGarrity and Addison McGarrity. Robert also had six great grandchildren and a sister, Helen Dimick of Perrysburg.

Robert received a bachelors degree from Bowling Green State University and a second degree from OSU, Columbus. He served in the Army Air Corps at Hondo Air Field, San Antonio, TX and at Langley Field, VA. He worked as a process engineer at Westinghouse and Ford Motor Company in Lima, OH. In Bluffton, Robert served on the Library Board, as a Boy Scout leader, an elder of the Bluffton Presbyterian Church and was a 50 year member of the Lions Club.

Funeral Services will begin at 1:30 pm Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Bluffton Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Good officiating. A reception will follow. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton. Memorial contributions may be made to Bluffton Presbyterian Church.
