OPAL MILLER

CRIDERSVILLE — Opal L. Miller, age 98 of Cridersville, died 5:30 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2014 at Cridersville Health Care. She was born August 22, 1915 in Auglaize County, Ohio; the daughter of the late Isaac and Louise Schlenker Mowery. On April 8, 1937 she married Elbert Merle Miller, who died July 8, 2000.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. She was a member of the St. Johns Grange #2520, past master of the Union Center Grange, a Farm Bureau member, was chairman of the Women's Committee, a past President and state secretary of Extension Homemaker, a member of the Uniopolis Historical Society, the Wapakoneta Eagles Auxiliary 691 and had served 30 years on the Auglaize County Election Board. She was an active member with the Wapakoneta Senior Citizens where she and her husband were Auglaize County's Outstanding Senior Citizens in 1992, and they were great supporters of the Auglaize County Fair.

She was very creative and enjoyed crafts. Her abilities and hobbies included caning chairs, crocheting, making rugs and helping make quilts. She was well known for making wedding, birthday, and different occasion cakes.

Survivors include nieces – Zoe Dillon of Springfield, OH; Sondra Mann of Lima; Mona (Don) Smith of TN; Janet (Larry) Foor of Bellefontaine; nephews – Marvin (Barbara) Logan of Wapakoneta; Melvin (Jeanne) Miller of Lima; and several grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother – Murrell Mowery; nieces – Kay Sweet, Pam Darbyshire, and nephew – David Shaw.

Funeral services will begin 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
