CRIDERSVILLE — Robert L. "Bob" Orpurt, 64, died July 13, 2014 at Camp Robin Rogers, where he served as director of the weekend camp for handicapped adults. He was born May 22, 1950 in Peru, Indiana to William and Betty Orpurt who preceded him in death.
He attended Lima City School, graduating in 1968. Robert then attended the branch, majoring in early childhood education and worked in many nursing homes and facilities for handicapped, including ARC of Allen County, where he was currently employed. He was very kind, caring and it was said he looked out for people who were forgotten. In the late 60's and early 70's he was lead vocalist for BOIZ band. He lived in Phoenix, Los Angeles and New York City which he loved and would visit often. Also was active in Amil Tellers, having appeared in many productions, including Van Wert Dinner Theatre.
He is survived by his fiancée, Beverly Nandi and her sons Nathan and Neil, 1 daughter Taylor (Andrew) Christman, 2 grandchildren Dean and Zoe Christman, 2 Brothers Philip (Doris) Orpurt and Lenny Orpurt, 2 Sisters Liz (Delano) Hunt and Mary (Richard) Painter. His former wife Jean Ann Adams and stepson D.J. Snider.
He was preceded in death by a brother Dennis Orpurt and two infant sisters.
Funeral service will begin at 5:30 p.m., Friday, July 18 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home with Pastor James Courts officiating. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 5:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
His upbeat spirit and kindness toward others will be missed greatly.
