LIMA — Karen K. Young Towle was born on November 13, 1933 in Troy, Ohio, the daughter of Howard and Dora Rudy Young. She died in Lima on August 24, 2014.
She graduated from West Phoenix High School in Phoenix, Arizona and received a B.S. Degree in education from Miami University, where she graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Classics, Spanish, and French honoraries. Following graduation, she taught high school Latin and English in Ohio and junior high English and foreign languages in Riverside, California. She did a post-graduate year in psychology at University of California, Berkeley and received an M.A. degree in School Psychology from San Francisco State University. She worked 27 years in Oakland, California as a school psychologist, working with children, staff, and parents toward understanding and alleviating learning and behavioral problems. Her major interest was in helping children develop greater self-awareness, self-appreciation, and communication skills. She was a member of the California Teachers Association and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Following retirement, she lived in Green Valley, Arizona for fifteen years.
Survivors include her brother, Dr. Lawrence L. (Barbara) Young of Lima; nephew, Dr. Phillip (Dawn) Young of Rochester, MN; niece, Sarah Young of Salida, CO; great-niece, Christina Young; and great-nephew, Andrew Young.
