WEST CHESTER — Howard Eugene Dunifon, 86, was called into the presence of the Lord, 4:05 pm Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at his home in West Chester, OH.

Howard was born November 19, 1927 in Van Wert, to the late Clay and Bertha M. (Myers) Dunifon. On May 5, 1956 he married the love of his life, Evelyn Louise (Snavley) Dunifon, who passed away September 27, 2011 after 55 wonderful years of marriage.

Mr. Dunifon was a 1945 graduate of Ridge High School, now Lincolnview, and a 1954 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII. Howard retired from SOHIO / Vistron / BP in 1985, after 30 years of service. He was a member of Lima Lodge #205 Free & Accepted Masons, Lima Chapter #49 Royal Arch Masons, Lima Council #20 Royal and Select Masons, Shawnee Commandery #14 Knights Templar, and was a 32nd degree Mason Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton. Howard was a member of the Professional Society of Engineers, Lima Chapter. He was also a member of Cridersville United Methodist Church, and was currently attending Cornerstone United Methodist Church in West Chester.

Howard and Evelyn were blessed with two daughters, Janet E. Davis and Barbara J. (Jeff) Evers, both of West Chester; three grandchildren, Shannon E. Davis, Kelly A. Evers, and Nathaniel C. Davis.

Other survivors include, three sisters, Mary Marshall, Helen Schaadt, of Van Wert, and Margaret (John) Evans, of Middlepoint; and sister-in-law, Pat Dunifon, of Van Wert.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Harold (Mildred) Dunifon, and Doyt Dunifon; two brothers-in-law, Harley Marshall, and Ralph Schaadt; and a sister-in-law, Mary E. (Carlton W.) Powell.

Services will begin 11:00 am Saturday, August 30, 2014 at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery. Pastor Thomas Eisenman will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army and VFW #1275.

Friends may call from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, August 29 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday. Masonic services will be observed 8:00 pm Friday.
