ELIDA — Bernard R. Hines, 75, died at 8:45 p.m. Dec. 9, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born June 23, 1938, in Van Wert County to Virgil L. and Ilo I. Gipe Hines, who preceded him in death. On June 2, 1961, he married Vivian Rekart, who survives in Elida.
Mr. Hines worked at Fruehauf for 33 years and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Gomer Dads Club. He loved playing cards and traveling. He started a girls softball team through the Gomer Dads Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and an accomplished hunter and fisherman. He was a charter captain of the Lucky 7 at Lake Erie. In 1990, his deer was entered into the Boone & Crockett record book. He truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was the proud father of seven.
Survivors also include four sons, Rickey (Lynn) Hines, of Delphos, Marshall (Lori) Hines, of Waynesfield, and Randall (Judy Wieging) Hines and Brian Hines, both of Delphos; three daughters, Christine (Bill Wannemacher) Robbins, of Ottoville, Rhonda (Tim) Harmon, of Quincy, and Pamela (Brian) Bridges, of Hilliard; a sister, Nancy (Bill) Winters, of New Haven; a brother, Richard (Marlene) Hines, of Union City; two brothers-in-law, Keith Beams, of Van Wert, and Jerry Goins, of Scott; and 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Deborath Ann Hines, Doris Hines Satterfield, Barbara Beams and Judy Goins.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Delphos, with military rites by the Delphos Veterans Council. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Delphos.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos, where a parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
