Jack L. Stahl 2016
ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Jack L. Stahl, 82, was born in Lincoln, Ill., and passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Jack moved to Albuquerque in 1951, graduating from Highland High School in 1952 and the University of New Mexico in 1956. In 1956, Jack Stahl married Carol Townsend of Odessa, Texas.
He taught mathematics at Ernie Pyle Jr. High School from 1956-1959, and then entered the real estate business. In 1967 he was co-founder of Hooten-Stahl, Inc., and he founded The Jack Stahl Company in 1977. He was one of the first real estate instructors for New Mexico having taught at the University of NM Community College (1965-70); the Realtors Institute (1967-73), and an instructor at the University of Albuquerque in Real Estate Sales and Management in 1973.
He's a past Director, Treasurer and 2nd Vice President of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors and in 1974 served on the Legislative Committee for the National Association of Realtors. In 1972 he was awarded Realtor of the Year award from the Albuquerque Board of Realtors.
A very strong believer in community service, Jack Stahl throughout his extraordinary life had served as a lay member of the Judicial Selection Committee of the NM State Bar, a past Chairman of the Board of Heights General Hospital Foundation, a past member of the Executive Board of the Great Southwest Council of Boy Scouts of America, a past member of the New Mexico Amigos (New Mexico's office Goodwill Ambassadors), a past member of the Region VI Advisory Council of the Small Business Administration, a past Chairman of the Albuquerque Fair Housing Advisory Board, a past Director of the Better Business Bureau of New Mexico (serving as its President from 1973-74) and a past member of the Albuquerque Rotary Club.

He was elected to the House of Representatives of the New Mexico Legislature in 1968. He was Chairman of the Bernalillo County Republican party 1971-72, and State Chairman of the New Mexico Republican Party 1975-76. Jack was elected to the Senate of the New Mexico Legislature in 1980 and re-elected in 1984. He served as Chairman of the Corporations Committee and Chairman of the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority Oversight Committee. In addition, he was a member of the Judiciary Committee and the Legislative Council. In 1981, he was a member of President Reagan's Presidential Rank Review Board and, in 1987, Jack was elected Lieutenant Governor for the State of New Mexico.
Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol; three daughters: Cheryl Willoughby (Danny), Nancy Dart (Greg) and Kellea Perron (Cameron); four grandsons: Aaron Willoughby, Jared Dart, Samuel Dart and Brent Perron; and two granddaughters, Ashlea Perron and Rachel Willoughby. He is also survived by numerous and very beloved nieces, nephews and extended family.
We want to express our thanks to Mike, Patricia, Bobby and Keith, who lovingly helped to care for Jack since his stroke.
Jack had a very generous heart and great sense of humor. He was an avid Red Sox fan and loved horse racing. Jack was a loving father, grandfather, friend and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was a proud and longtime supporter of the New Mexico Boys Ranch and the work they do and would request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in his memory to: The Ranches, P.O. Box 9, Belen, NM 87002, or Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122, or a charity of your choice.

I had a brief but very significant relationship with Jack Stahl, as I affiliated with his brand-new residential brokerage "Jack Stahl Co. Realtors" on Wyoming Blvd. NE in late 1982, after he had just wound up a five year non-compete clause with his former partner Bill Hooten---in the Albuquerque residential marketplace. He'd already been quite busy with apartment and condo development here and in southern NM, and upon his return to listing and selling re-sale and new homes--I met his new QB, Jane Peterson upon my completion of RE School and getting my RE license. She convinced me that I was with the right organization and Jack welcomed me as his first (and neophyte) agent, and I received the blessing and encouragement of this highly principled and successful businessman, supported by one Abq's best trainers, teachers, and mentors of the time. What a catapult to a career that was initiated in the early 1980's atomosphere of 15%+ interest rates, for someone like myself with no prior RE experience, and no knowledge of Albuquerque after my recent arrival from Northern California. Thanks Jack Stahl>>> and to the Stahl family, friends, and business associates today---there won't ever be a tomorrow that I won't remember the positive experience and foundation that he provided at a pivotal time in my life. Thank you Jack, and Rest in Peace.........

My deepest condolences to the Stahl family. Jack (or Mr. Stahl to me) was a brilliant man, a generous human being, and a mentor. Although we worked together only a few years during the early years of The Jack Stahl Co., the lessons I learned from him have proven invaluable. I am so sorry for your loss.
