Darrell Alvin Miller

URBANA - Darrell Alvin Miller, 81, of Urbana died at 9:25 p.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana. Rev. Donald Ehlers will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Visitation will be held from 10–11 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

He was born on September 27, 1932, in Lincoln, the son of Alvin F. and Ruth L. Wiemer Miller. He married Norma Bartman on June 14, 1953, in Emden; she died November 21, 2003.

Survivors include one son, Blake (Dana) Miller of Brentwood, Tennessee; three daughters, Valerie Fox of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Vicki (Don) Rubenstein of Greenville, South Carolina, and Tara Kirby of St. Charles, Illinois; and thirteen grandchildren.

He graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. and M.S and Purdue University with a PhD.

Mr. Miller was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois in Plant Breeding ad Genetics and Forage Consultant, where he received numerous teaching and advising awards.

Mr. Miller was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Urbana, where he served in numerous positions in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Norma A. Miller Scholarship Fund or to the Darrell A. Miller Scholarship Fund at the University of Illinois.
