Michael DeCanter
MANITO - John Michael DeCanter, 40, of 202 Washington Street, passed away at 10:53 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center Emergency Room in Peoria.
Born November 20, 1970 in Pekin to James Carl and Jean Irene (Vance) DeCanter, he married Christina Louise Cobb on November 22, 2000 in Lincoln. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother and step-father, Jean and Jerry Fate of Manito; two daughters, Brittney Lynn Schappaugh and Tiffany Reane DeCanter, both of Manito; one son, Levi Jacob DeCanter of Manito; two brothers, Jim (Heather) DeCanter of Manito and David (Amy) DeCanter of Mason City; one sister, Patti DeCanter of Salisbury, MD and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his in-laws, Pat and LeRoy Cobb of Lincoln.
His father preceded him in death.
John worked for Keystone Steel & Wire Company in Bartonville for the last 4 years as a mechanical technician in the steel mill, last working on Wednesday. He previously worked at Hog Belt Bikes in Pekin.
His passion was building and riding motorcycles along with being with his family and bike buddies.
John was a member of Mason City Community Chapel.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 at Maas Funeral Home in Manito. The Rev. Curt McCallister will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a fund established for his children at Manito Community Bank, 105 South Adams, Manito, IL 61546.

Jean, I returned from vacation today and was shocked to see this in the paper. I remember Johnny as a cute little toddler with beautiful curly hair! Of course, that was many years ago, when we rode to Cutler-Hammer together (and when I was Carol Ogle). My prayers are with you and your family.
