David Manabu Onuma
CARLOCK - David Manabu Onuma, age 63, of rural Carlock, IL, went to be with the Lord with his family by his side on December 22, 2012 at 1:50 PM at Advocate BroMenn Hospital in Normal, IL.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 27 from 5:00-7:00 PM with a celebration of life service following at Beck's Funeral Home, 209 E. Grove St, Bloomington, IL with pastors Dennis and Gale Sheehan, brothers-in-law, officiating.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, December 28 at Lake Bank Cemetery, Mt. Pulaski, IL.
David was born on October 18, 1949, in Chicago, IL to Donald and Helen Munekiyo Onuma, who both preceded him in death. He married Angela M. Sheehan in Springfield, IL on August 22, 1981; she survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Kaitlin D' Angela Onuma.
David graduated from Illinois State University with honors in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in sociology followed by a master's degree in 1975. He also did post-graduate work at Washington University in St. Louis. He enjoyed being a professor of sociology and coaching varsity men's and women's tennis at Eureka College from 1975-1985. David joined State Farm Insurance Co. in 1986 where he worked in the areas of claims adjusting and education/training. He earned his CPCU designation in 1995, and also many other insurance certifications du-ring his years at State Farm. He retired after 26 years of service on June 1, 2012.
He was an avid ISU and White Sox fan, as well as softball, bowling, tennis, and all-around game enthusiast. One of his greatest joys was coaching and seeing his daughter, Katie, excel in sports.
A memorial message: "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, a time to die…. a time to remember and honor David Onuma, a loving husband, Dad, son, uncle, nephew, cousin, colleague, and friend."
