George W. Isham

LINCOLN - George W. Isham, 76, of Lincoln, passed away May 22, 2012 in Monahans, Texas into his Heavenly Father's open arms.

Visitation will be Friday, June 1 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with the funeral following at Lincoln Christian Church. Burial will follow at Lucas Chapel Cemetery. Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

George was born on August 28, 1935 in Whitehall, Illinois, the son of George and Mary (Malin) Isham. He married Betty L. Keim on April 21, 1961 at Lincoln Christian Church.

He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church for 50 years and served as co-superintendent of the Sunday School, helped with the youth, and served as a deacon and an elder. He loved helping with various programs around the church including the Harvest of Talents and helping with the Walk for the Crisis Pregnancy Center. He was always willing to be of service in the Family of God and to serve his Heavenly Father.

George worked as a barber for 20 years at Lincoln Development Center. He drove for Capitol Tours for 9 years, as well as, worked as a janitor for school programs at LDC and West Lincoln Broadwell. He also drove a school bus for Chester East and West Lincoln Broadwell Schools.

Surviving are his wife, Betty, of Lincoln, his daughter Denise Hicks (Greg) of Monahans, Texas and his son Roger Isham (Julie) of South Elgin, Illinois. He also has 7 grandchildren: Michael Hicks, Danica Hicks and fiance Julian Hernandez, Haylie Hicks, and Ashley Ceballos (Anthony) all of Monahans, Texas, and Taylor, Austin, and Emma Li Isham of South Elgin, Illinois. Three brothers - John Isham (Doris) of Whitehall, IL, Jack Isham (Janet) of Hillview, IL, and Melvin (Alice) of Carrollton, IL. Two sisters - Mary Lawson and Virginia Adams both of Whitehall, IL.

George was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren: Andrew and Grace Isham and by 3 brothers Everett, Frank and Bob Isham.

George was an ardent St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and Chicago Bear football fan. He was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandpa. He will be missed by many.

Memorials can be made to the Lincoln Christian Church Building Fund.
