Nelson H. Alberts

EMDEN - Nelson H. Alberts, 89, of Emden, passed away at 7:00 a.m., Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

He was born August 6, 1923, in Emden to Harry G. and Anna Cross Alberts. He married Viola Krusemark on May 14, 1950, in Emden, and she passed away October 6, 2012.

Surviving are: one son, Tom (Valerie) Alberts of Emden; one daughter, Gail (Joe) Snyder of Emden; six grandchildren, Michael Alberts, Leann (Andrew) Johnson, Nicholas (April) Alberts, Douglas Alberts, Sarah (Paul Armstrong) Nelson, and Tommy Snyder; three great-grandchil- dren, Claire and Cole Johnson and Austin Alberts; one sister, Gertrude Johnson of Emden.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Roland and Alan.

Nelson taught at Emden Grade School from 1946 to 1952 then began farming in the Emden area.

He served in the U.S. Army in New Guinea and Philippines during WWII from 1943 to 1946.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden and its Lutheran Brotherhood, member of Logan County Farm Bureau, Emden Farmers Grain Company Board for 22 years and served as president for 13 years, served as trustee of Prairie Creek Township Board and member of Emden American Legion Post#506 and Forty et 8.

Nelson was a loving, caring father, uncle, Godfather, and friend to many.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 9, 2013, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Emden. Pastor John Schurter will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church and from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, rural Emden with military honors provided by his American Legion Post. Davis Mortuary in Delavan is handling the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Emden Fire and Rescue, Christian Village in Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, or a charity of donor's choice.
